“Mommy when I
grow up can I get a sports car?” Rowan asked.
“If you want one, yes,” I answered.
“When I have a baby, I can get one?” she continued.
“If you and your husband decide you want a sports car,
then yes, you guys will buy one.”
She nodded her head in approval.
I was telling this story to a friend and she asked why I
said if Rowan and her husband decide it’s okay, then it’s okay. Why didn’t I say Rowan if you want to buy
one, then you can buy one. Let her know
she can buy one on her own.
I said because I want her to have the thought about
marriage in her mind, even that isn’t what she sees every day. I want the message there that babies come
after husbands, and not six or seven months after husbands. The world will teach her she can buy a sports car
for herself, but I want her to know the way God intended for it to go. First comes love, then comes marriage, then
comes a baby in a sports car.
