I was walking past Jory's room.
"Do you have underwear on?" I asked, as I saw him pulling on his jeans.
"Oh," he replied, as he started to lower his jeans.
Really?! How do you forget to put your underwear on? Your underwear?!

Joss
I really need have three more kids. Jack, Tatum, and then finally Joss.
Joss, an ode to Whedon and Stone. Joss could be my cute little pequeno.
Then I’d have three girls: Rowan, Layla, and Tatum (notice five letters with at least one “a”).
And my precious boys: Jory, Jack, and Joss (notice four letters and begins with “J”).
It sounded like a good idea in the beginning
The door opens. I
slowly awake. This being climbs on the
bed and lays next to me. I feel the body
next to me.
“Layla, what are you doing in here?” I question as I
scoot over to make room for her.
“I woke up,” she answers.
“Okay.”
We drift off to sleep together.
I feel another body next to me. Long legs.
“Jory, what are you doing in here?”
“I couldn’t sleep.”
“Did you even try to lay in your bed and go back to
sleep?”
“Yes,” he answers.
“You need to go back to your room and try a little bit
longer,” I say, as I roll over and go back to sleep.
We really need to rework the whole if you wake up in the
middle of the night, you can come into mommy’s room thing. I’m trying to prevent people from raiding the
fridge, waking siblings up, and roaming the house, not sure if this is the best
approach to take though…
Worms and Brothers and Craziness
“Mommy, you almost ran over it,” Rowan declared, getting
into the car after closing the gate.
What is she talking about? I didn’t almost run over her. There were no cats or dogs behind me.
“Mommy, you almost ran over the worm,” she said,
answering my unspoken questions.
Oh, uh, okay.
“You saw a worm?” Jory inquired.
“Yes, he was trying to go to the street, but I closed the
gate so he wouldn’t get into the house,” my big girl replied.
“He wasn’t trying to get to the street. It would take him all day, all night, all
day, all night, all day, all night. 600
days to get to the street. Worms move
very slow. They live in the dirt,” he
stated, sounding very sure of himself.
“Can he live in the grass?” Rowan questioned.
“He lives in the dirt,” Jory responded.
“It’s dark down there,” she continued.
“They like the dark,” he replied.
Who knew he knew so much about worms. Or that it would take 600 years for a worm to
get from the gate to the street. They
are super slow moving creatures. What a
good, smart big brother he is, sharing his knowledge with his younger sister.
"You should have picked it up and gave it to me," he continued.
Yep, Jory started talking crazy and we were doing so well.
"You would have kept in the car," Rowan asked.
"Yes, then we could have taken in the house."
"Mommy, can we have a pet worm," she asked.
"No," I said firmly.
"What about a dog or a cat?" he added.
"There are three of you. We're not adding anything to our household that can't one day take care of him or herself."
Father, You Knew Us
Father, you knew us before we were born.
And you chose us to be your children.
Father, you faithfully watch over and protect us.
Your plan for our lives gives us hope and a future.
Just as Moses was drawn from the Nile into a new life,
You saved us from destruction through your Son, Christ Jesus.
You delivered your people through the courage of Esther.
You gave Mordecai the grace to adopt his orphaned cousin.
In obedience, Joseph accepted Jesus as his own.
He answered your call to model love and compassion.
Praise and glory to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Through adoption in Christ, God invites us to enter His kingdom. We are adopted children of God.

That girl
"Mommy, can we go that girl's house where Bubbles lives?" Rowan asked me.
What? Are you kidding me?! "Rowan, do you mean, you want to go over to Auntie Dee Dee and Uncle Stan's house to see Bubbles?"
She nodded her head.

"Mommy, can we go over to Auntie Nancy's house so we can see Bubbles?" Rowan asked last night while we were waiting for Oma to come out of Home Depot.
"Her name is Auntie Dee Dee," Jory said exasperated.
"Yes, Auntie Dee Dee. Mommy, can we go over to Auntie Dee Dee's house so we can play with Bubbles?" she asked again.
"I will ask Auntie Dee Dee and Uncle Stan when we can come over so you can play with Bubbles," I responded back.
My little blonde girl, what would I ever do without her.

And I'm Getting Older Too...
This morning Jory and I went over his ten spelling words. On this hump day, he knew two perfectly the others he was off by a letter or two. After we finished, we moved on to his verses for AWANA. During a pause between the verses, Jory asked me something he's never asked me before.
"Mommy, can we go back over the spelling words?"
Is he serious? "You want to go back over your spelling words?" Really? Are we reaching a new age of maturity?
"Yes."
"Okay, but because we just went over them, you'll have to spell them correctly now and again tonight when I pick you up."
"Okay."
Okay. Let's move forward into this brand new world. "Broken."
"B-R-O-K-E-N."
"Good job."
"Human."
"H-U-M-A-N."
"Good job."
"Basic."
"B-A-S-I-C."
"Jory, what are you reading?" I asked, turning my head to see him bent over reading my missing lesson plan pages.
He handed me the papers and we went back to our verses. "And the angel said unto them..."
What gave him away you ask? Five minutes before basic had been spelled with a "ck" and I acknowledged how confusing it was to hear the word "sick" in "basic", but it wasn't spelt the same way. It was spellt with a "c".
He and I are both getting older too.....

CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Congrats goes out to my friend, Jamie, her hubby, Gary, and their wonderful kids, Lana, Kayla, and Bryant, (Yes, that Lana. As in Rowan's BFF.) on their finalization of the adoption of their youngest, Blake. Blake is a true cutie.
I know the relief they feel now that their baby is legally theirs. No more agency, no more social workers, no back of the mind thought that someone can come and take your baby. He's just theirs, as he has been in their hearts from the moment he was placed in their arms.
God rocks! Adoption rocks!

Awesome Parenting Times
You know what’s awesome about parenting. It’s moments like these…
“Jory, I didn’t hear the toilet flush.”
“I didn’t flush it.
I left it so you could see it. My
stomach hurts.”
Lucky mom. Lucky
mom. I’m the lucky mom. I went into the bathroom and looked into the
toilet. What is that? Is that blood? No, it’s not blood. It’s his chips. It’s the dye from his chips.
We are officially done eating those
chips. That so can’t be good for you.
Why didn’t anyone ever tell me about these awesome
moments that I had to look forward to?
Little Miss, Little Miss Can't Be Wrong
I saw Layla
walking into Jory’s room.
“Layla, don’t go in Jory’s room and play without him in
there,” I said to her.
“I would never do that,” she replied in the most innocent
of voices.
I almost started laughing. So innocent sounding. Who me?
I would never ever play in Jory’s room.
Gotta love four-year-olds.
