I came home on Friday and was greeted with the news that
Rowan’s glasses were broken.
“Mommy, I ran into my friend and my glasses broke,” she
told me eagerly.
“What were you looking at that you didn’t see her?” I
asked because sometimes the five-year-old can be very interested in what
someone else is doing and not pay attention to what she’s doing and where she’s
going.
“I was looking at Jacob,” she replied.
Of course she was.
“Rowan, you have to pay attention to where you are walking and to what
you’re doing. I don’t want you to hurt
yourself because you’re not paying attention.”
“Are you upset because I broke my glasses?”
“No, I’m not upset, but I need you to be careful, okay?”
“Okay,” she answered, then skipped off to play with her
sister.
It’s a good thing
that money grows on trees and that I have two other kids who like to pay
attention.
