"Mommy, can we take that boy home?" Jory asked, as we were stopped at a light.
"What boy?" I inquired.
"The one over there," he said, pointing to a boy around nine or ten standing at the light with a grocery bag in his hand.
"Why?"
"Because he don't have a mommy or daddy," Rowan answered.
Whoa! Where did that come from? "How do you know that he doesn't have a mommy or daddy?"
"Cause he's by himself," the baby added.
"You don't know that. He's a big boy, so he could be waiting for his mom or dad to come to the light. He could live close by and his parents trust him to walk to the store and back by himself. I'm pretty sure he has parents."
Who knew kids thought like that, wanting to take in another kid that they figured didn't have a home. So sweet and kind of them. They surprised me with this conversation, though I should have told them unless they are kids we know, mommy is only open to taking home little infant boys named Jack.
